About Project

The project of the shared online presentation of the Furtula Brotherhood was created out of the need to collect, organize, and preserve information about the brotherhood’s origins, family connections, and history in one place. It is a joint initiative of the brotherhood’s members, with the goal of creating a lasting archive accessible to both present and future generations.

The initiative to launch the project came from members of the Pale branch of the Furtula Brotherhood. However, it is important to emphasize that this work stands on the foundation of many years of research initiated by Milovan Đorđijev Furtula. His work on family history and the organization of the first brotherhood gathering represent a turning point without which this project would not exist in its present form. The project also continues the cultural contribution of the brotherhood members Milomir and Tomo Furtula, who spent years collecting and documenting information about the Pale branch, preserving local family history from being forgotten.

This online presentation is a collective continuation of that work.

Project Goals

The primary goal of the project is the systematic collection and preservation of family history data in order to construct the brotherhood’s genealogy as accurately as possible. In addition to genealogical information, the project also includes:

  • family documentation
  • photographs and archival materials
  • family legends and oral traditions
  • personal stories and memories
  • branch migrations and geographical traces

The goal is not only to record names and dates, but to preserve the living memory of the brotherhood. A genealogy without stories is incomplete - this archive seeks to unite both facts and memories.

The website is envisioned as a living database, a place where information is continuously supplemented, verified, and systematized. Nothing is final or closed: every new piece of information may contribute to a better understanding of our shared history.

Access to Data

Special attention has been given to privacy and respect for family data. The genealogy and documentation form a protected archive intended exclusively for members of the brotherhood.

User accounts are not created independently by visitors. Accounts are created by the administrative group following verification and communication with the brotherhood member. This procedure ensures that the data remains:

  • accurate
  • reliable
  • organized
  • protected

After receiving an account, a member may access existing documentation, the genealogy, and the archive, as well as submit new materials through a dedicated form.

Administrative Group

The maintenance of the website and the organization of the project are managed by an administrative group composed of brotherhood members involved in archival and genealogical work.

The responsibilities of the administrative group include:

  • collecting and entering submitted materials
  • technical maintenance of the website
  • editing and systematizing data
  • assisting brotherhood members with participation in the project
  • coordinating the future development of the archive

The administrative group does not own the project — it serves the brotherhood. All data remains a shared heritage.

How to Contribute

Every member of the brotherhood may participate. Technical knowledge is not required. Members who wish to:

  • participate in editing the genealogy
  • submit information, stories, or documents
  • gain access to already recorded family data
  • assist in researching different branches

may contact the administrative group through the contact form.

After communication and confirmation, administrators create a user account, enabling access to the archive and participation in the project.

We invite all interested members of the brotherhood to get in touch. Anyone who wishes may become part of the wider circle of contributors.

Working Together

This project exists solely thanks to collective effort. Even the smallest piece of information may be crucial in connecting branches and understanding our origins.

Let us preserve not only names, but also the living memory of the brotherhood.
